Linux Desktop Change

After installing Linux Mint on a computer, it may turn out that everything runs extremely slowly because you’ve chosen the Cinnamon desktop and the computer can’t handle it. However, rather than installing Linux Mint all over again, but with a different desktop, you can just switch to another desktop within the already installed system. The Xfce and MATE desktops are lighter than the Cinnamon desktop, so one of these two might be more suitable for an older, less powerful computer.

Replacing the Cinnamon desktop with the Xfce desktop

1. sudo apt-get install -y mint-meta-xfce
2. sudo apt-get remove -y mint-meta-cinnamon ; sudo apt autoremove -y

Replacing the Cinnamon desktop with the MATE desktop

1. sudo apt-get install -y mint-meta-mate
2. sudo apt-get remove -y mint-meta-cinnamon ; sudo apt autoremove -y
