Items that might possibly be required to fix an ADSL problem include:
- Screwdriver for exposing test socket next to master socket.
- Toothpick or unfolded paperclip for pressing recessed reset button on router.
- Spare router and power supply.
- Spare Ethernet patch (straight through) cable.
- Spare ADSL filters.
- Laptop with dongle or pebble for Internet access, or smartphone, for
checking service update messages, scheduling a line test, and
accessing further useful troubleshooting tips.
Note that if you have to use your Internet dongle or pebble on a
customer’s system, you should disable Windows Update and
automatic anti-virus updates first so that the system does not
start downloading a huge amount of data that will delay your
testing and eat up your usage allowance.
